Mikkelsen Lab

The Mikkelsen Lab develops and applies state-of-the-art magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) for the noninvasive detection and quantification of chemicals in the living human brain.

MRS is a radiological technique related to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The difference between the two is that MRS specifically measures the concentration of chemicals in tissue.

Principal Investigator Dr. Mark Mikkelsen and his group are dedicated to being at the forefront of in vivo MRS research. Our two-pronged approach of developing novel methods to conduct MRS and applying these advances in biomedicine motivates us to seek to improve scientific understanding of the human brain and treatment of neurological, neuropsychiatric, and neuro-oncological diseases and disorders.

We are based in the MRI Research Institute (MRIRI) of the Department of Radiology at Weill Cornell Medicine.

I was taught that the way of progress was neither swift nor easy.
